Early Help

Early Help Module (EHM) is an innovative, dynamic Early Help Tool designed to support practitioners from across the partnership  record early  help intervention offered to families  in Sandwell. EHM is designed to support practitioners to view families  electronic record, manage or co-ordinate workload, record meeting, visits, plan outcomes, monitor and update case notes.

EHM delivers a solution to facilitate communication between practitioners from different services and agencies which will enable them to share Early Help Assessment information and record intervention completed appropriately and securely for the benefit of children, young people and families.

We deliver training on the Early Help Module to a range of professionals which includes, but is not limited to; educational and health professionals, children’s social care staff (including; Strengthening Families Service, MASH, MST, DECCA,  EDS, contact centre and social care), Sandwell MBC, West Midlands Police and the Voluntary Sector.

EHM  is  a  partnership  database, overseen by the ISM team within Sandwell Childrens Trust (SCT). A key  role of  ISM is to build positive relationships and maintain regular communication with key professionals to ensure that EHM training and support is up to date and relevant for those using it in order to improve outcomes for children and families.

We are here to provide guidance on EHM processes, assist users to navigate the system, provide comprehensive training and guidance documents for all users covering all relevant sections of EHM.

We also provide a Specialist Helpdesk in order to support users as and when needed.

We offer the following Early Help training sessions: Introduction to Early Help in Sandwell, Lead Professional and Early Help Module.

Introduction to Early Help in Sandwell 

This is an eLearning training session that is suitable for anyone that works with children, young people, and families

Early Help Module (EHM)

This is a currently a virtual classroom based course and is split in to Basic and Advanced.

Basic training will cover the following:

  • How to navigate around the Early Help System
  • The difference between an open and closed episode
  • See who the lead professional is, or the lead professional for previously open episodes
  • How to search for and create a child/young person
  • How to add family
  • How to add involvements (key agencies working with the family)
  • How to open and the steps to follow in order to complete and Early Help Assessment
  • How to create a case note
  • How to record a family visit
  • How to attach and restrict documents

Advanced training will cover the following:

  • A refresher of the basic training
  • How to organise & create Team Around the Family meetings
  • How to record Team Around the Family plans
  • How and when to open Short Term work and what can be recorded there
  • How to record Outcome Star and Family Star
  • How to open and record a GCP2 assessment
  • Closure process

Lead Professional

This training is face to face. The training will cover the following:

  • Role of the Lead Professional
  • Selecting the appropriate Lead Professional
  • Taking notes and recording information
  • Skills required to be a competent Lead Professional including dealing with difficult situations and accountabilities
